The family is thrilled to have released their first single as a collective in almost 20 years! Members Debbie Sledge, her daughter Camille, son David, nephew Thaddeus (son of Joni Sledge) and long term Sister Sledge vocalist Tanya Ti-et released the vibrant song ‘FREE’ on February 18th!

Free was written by Debbie Sledge, Camille Sledge, Morgann McClanahan, Paul David and Dominic Amato. It was produced by Dominic Amato & Paul David.

The album is a layered mix of Soul, Hip Hop and jazzy tones that exquisitely impart Camille’s defiant, activist energy. We are so proud of Camille and her team. Having been named “Best Vocalist” in Phoenix Magazine 2017, she has gone from strength to strength, and her signature sound here is nothing short of sensational!

Nina Simone’s seminal voice and remarkable music stood up against racial injustice and carried forward American civil rights efforts for decades. Debbie’s group, Sister Sledge, released the iconic song “We Are Family” four decades ago, and it remains a universal anthem for diverse communities the world over. The intersection of Nina’s brilliant music, with its defiant social outcry, and Debbie’s passionate call for unity through her healing voice, is something to truly cherish. Significantly, for these times, the performance was recorded in Denmark – a country where many African American musicians sought refuge during the height of the 1960s civil rights movement. Experience the intimacy, ambience and power of being there on that auspicious night. The album will be released to mark the period of the postponed Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
