HEY FAM! We want you to get to know some of the younger Sledgendary family who now perform with Sister Sledge, and first up we have the one and only Thaddeus Sledge Whyte, none other than Joni’s son! Like his mom, Thad is a powerhouse performer, has a beautiful heart and is also pretty good at doing an English accent! 😁 #MeettheFam #WeAreFamily #SisterSledge #Sledgendary
THADDEUS SLEDGE WHYTE...
Q: How long have you been performing with the group?
A: I was fortunate enough to be asked to join the group by my late mother, Joni, back in December of 2016. My first gig with Sister Sledge was in Glasgow, Scotland, at the famous Barrowland Ballroom in front of thousands of screaming fans. It was a real trial by fire haha, I was so nervous in fact, I actually forgot the words to my first solo!! Since then, with the help of my family, the past 5 years have been an incredible musical journey for me. I've learned what it truly takes to become an artist, a singer, and most importantly a performer.
Q: What is one of your favorite memories on tour?
A: Wow, such a tough question! I just have so many wonderful memories and experiences from all over the world that it's hard to narrow down. We've played enormous castles, packed clubs, swanky ballrooms, sold out arenas, massive festivals, we even played a Scottish street rave! We've shared the stage with legendary acts like The Jacksons, Kool & The Gang, Earth Wind and Fire, & The Pointer Sisters. Even did a gig with Bruno Mars. However, if I had to pick one, I would have to say it was the time I got to hand feed a ton of different wild animals including a few asian bears, and an actual silverback gorilla!! We were performing at a fundraiser for a wildlife foundation in the UK and were fortunate enough to be given a private tour of the preserve. It was a surreal experience to say the least. If you ever get the chance to meet our bass player, DBazz, ask him about Badongo..
Q: What song do you like to perform the most?
A: With such an iconic catalog of hits, it's hard to narrow it down because they're all just so much fun to perform. That being said I would have to give the honor to Lost in Music. Most people would think that I would choose We Are Family due to recognition and the vibe we create while performing it, but I'm going with Lost for many personal reasons. Lost in Music is an anthem in its own right, but it just so happens to be one of the many songs that my Mother, Joni sang lead on. So to honor her legacy, my Aunts, Debbie and Kim, passed the torch (mic) to me and now I sing lead on the live version. It's an amazing way for me to feel connected to my mother while showcasing my talents, not to mention it's the song that our incredible band gets to flex on with some truly mind melting solos.
Q: What does FAM mean to you?
A: FAM to me is everything. It can be a place to draw strength from, a source of power when you need. It can also be a shield to protect you from the perils of this world. FAM is everything in this life, it shows you where you came from as well as where you are going. Most importantly, FAM is Love! And like my FAM always says, "Nothing is Greater Than Love." ...
